Metal Chains

Chains complement every piece of jewelry there is. The best complement to add to your choker would be the platinum chain, since it will provide a little bit of shine. When considering that you are gifting your friend with chain jewelry, why not add to her wardrobe with the addition of an 18-inch silver or 18k gold chain?

Common Necklace Clasps

Necklaces usually come with a clasp closure which helps to put on necklaces easily. There are a few different kinds of clasps available at The Carat Casa. Discover our common kinds of clasps for necklaces and see how they work.

Spring ring clasps are extremely popular among necklaces because they are very convenient to use. Spring ring clasp works in the following way – there is a ring which needs to be attached to another part of the chain via jump ring. In order to open the spring ring clasp on a necklace, just move the metal on the spring backwards to make it easier to attach the jump ring.

A lobster claw clasp is quite similar to a spring ring but differs in the shape of the clasp itself. A lobster claw clasp can be opened by simply pressing the protruded metal, which will open up the clasp, after which you can thread the jump ring at the end of your necklace through it.

Box clasps are among the commonly used types of clasp that work well with many designs. In order to open your box clasp, you should simply press the groove of the tongue down, and then pull the tongue out from inside the clasp. When closing a box clasp, you just need to carefully push the tongue into the clasp closure. The process may also involve pressing down the groove of the tongue so that it enters the clasp.

Necklace box clasps with safety are utilized in tennis necklaces and other types of jewelry involving precious gems. The box clasp with hidden safety can be fastened by inserting the metal tongue located on one side of the necklace into the box clasp found on the other end of the necklace. Ensure that the hidden safety bars are open so that the tongue can be locked properly; otherwise, the tongue will not fit into the clasp. After locking the tongue into place, you should lock the safety bar inside. Some necklaces have an extra figure 8 necklace clasp which locks onto a part of the safety bar that closes.

Fish hook clasps are usually applied in pearl necklaces. For opening fish hook necklace clasps, one needs to squeeze the notches of the hook and then slide it away from the clasp. This will unlock the first locking mechanism of the clasp, and as a result, the hook will become wide enough in the clasp that it can be observed in the safety lock of the clasp. Then move the hook smoothly until it is taken out of the lock. For closing a fish hook necklace clasp, move the hook into the first safety lock of the clasp and then lock it.

Necklaces & Pendants As Gifts

Most people begin with a necklace of imitation pearls, and so a necklace of freshwater pearls is an excellent choice for the beginning of one’s jewelry collection. In the case of a special celebration such as a birthday or first wedding anniversary, you can choose a solitaire pendant, which will feature either pearls or diamonds. For occasions such as five- or ten-year anniversaries, you can gift Akoya pearls, which are the best white pearls you can find.

For special fun gifts, such as those for a holiday trip or promotion, you can choose pendants that are designed using either 18k gold, platinum, or sterling silver.
